Trifty Store

A good friend of mine is from a forgein country.  She's got the traditional problems with the English language consonant blends.  She likes to bargin shop, so the Thrift Store is one of her favorite places.

But she calls it "Trify Store", and you need to squeeze a "ch" in between the T and R, made to sound like one letter.

I digress.

I did not like Trifty Store shopping as a child/adolescent/young adult/ or even last year.  Why?  I've giving it lots of thought, and I think that it all goes down to one very selfish reason.  If I was wearing something from the used clothing store, it had been owned by someone else.  That person might see me wearing it.  Then I might get picked on.  This is a reasonable though as it grew up in a very small community of less then 2,000 (not just my town, but the whole region) there was a huge chance you would be wearing something that had been given away by a classmate.  It happened all the time to other classmates, you can see why I would want to avoid it.

I am a grown up now.  I live in a bigger community.  I have about 10 friends.  I can proudly wear used clothing and know that I will not run into it's original owner.  I have access to a great Trifty Store that benefits a great community program.  It's always stuffed full of good things, and I'm not worried I'm taking things away from people who need it.  There is such a backlog of donations that a dress I dropped off in August just turned up last week into the inventory.  Yes, I'm a dork, but it's the first thing of mine that made it into the inventory that I had seen.

This past summer I have had great success with my local Trifty Store.  I'd like to share with everyone how I did this.  Please stay tuned for my tips for having your own thrift store fun!
